2027 Jeep Wrangler Switchback: The Final Twelve 4 Twelve Drop, Revealed

2027 Jeep Wrangler Switchback in Sting-Gray with a contrasting black door, Gecko green Switchback hood graphic, and Gecko beadlock wheel ring, throwing mud on a forest trail

The twelfth and final Twelve 4 Twelve Wrangler is the 2027 Jeep Wrangler Switchback. Jeep revealed it at noon Eastern on Monday, October 12, 2026. It is built from the Rubicon X, it comes in two-door and four-door form, and its whole idea is a Wrangler that looks like it swapped hoods and doors with its sibling on the way out of the factory.

What Jeep revealed

  • Name: 2027 Jeep Wrangler Switchback, drop 12 of 12.
  • Base: Wrangler Rubicon X, two-door and four-door.
  • Colors: two exterior choices, Gloss Black and Sting-Gray, each with a contrasting hood and doors.
  • Accent: Gecko green on the grille surround, hood graphic, swing-gate decal, and the beadlock wheel rings.
  • Price: a $2,870 package. Jeep lists MSRP at $66,695 for the two-door and $69,995 for the four-door, both including the $1,995 destination charge.
  • Orders: open in November. Jeep calls quantities limited.

The swap is the whole idea

Most of this series looked backward: military roots, the CJ-2A, the Laredo, the eighties. Jeep says the finale looks forward instead, drawing on the bold colors and mix-and-match style of modern gaming and digital culture.

The design plays on something every Wrangler owner already knows: the hood and doors come off. On the Switchback, the dual vented power dome hood and the doors are painted the opposite color from the body. Per Jeep's model page, a Sting-Gray Switchback gets Gloss Black doors, and a black Switchback gets Sting-Gray doors. A "Switchback" hood graphic and a '41 body-side decal add another layer of contrast, and the three-piece hardtop comes in Gloss Black or Sting-Gray.

The swap is not just paint. According to Jeep, black and Sting-Gray trucks are sequenced together down the assembly line, the doors are exchanged during regular production, and the hoods are swapped at the upfitting center.

Not the first Switchback

The name has been on a Jeep before. The Jeep Switchback was one of the Jeep and Mopar concepts at the 2017 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, the 51st running of the event, and it was built on the previous-generation JK Wrangler.

That truck was a parts-catalog showcase rather than a color study:

  • 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with a five-speed automatic
  • Front and rear Dana 44 axles, a 4-inch lift with remote reservoir Fox shocks, and heavy-duty cast diff covers
  • 17-inch concept wheels on 37-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain KM2 tires
  • A concept hood, half doors, and a concept "Safari" hardtop with a roof rack
  • Steel front and rear bumpers, high-top fender flares, an LED windshield light bar, and LED A-pillar lamps
  • Katzkin leather seats and spray-in bedliner on the floor

Jeep's 2026 release does not mention the concept, and the production Switchback shares the name, not the build. The 2017 truck was about lift, lockers, and 37s; the 2027 truck is about swapped panels and Gecko accents on a stock Rubicon X. For a series that kept pulling names out of Jeep's past, it is a fitting last one.

Rubicon X underneath

Jeep lists the running gear on the Switchback page:

  • 17-inch Luster Gray painted beadlock wheels with a Gecko painted ring
  • 35-inch all-terrain tires
  • Rock-Trac part-time 4x4 system
  • Tru-Lok electronic locking front and rear differentials
  • Black front and rear tow hooks on a steel front bumper
  • Black Jeep and Trail Rated badging

The wheel ring is the detail Jeep is proudest of. It calls these the first bright-colored beadlock wheel rings on a production Wrangler, with a Gecko finish developed specifically for the ring.

Jeep's release does not list a separate engine for the Switchback. It is a package on the Rubicon X, so check the Rubicon X build sheet at your dealer for powertrain details.

Inside

  • Global Black Nappa leather seats with a debossed Switchback logo
  • Sea Salt Nappa-trimmed instrument panel surround, door armrests, and center console lid, which Jeep calls a first for Wrangler
  • Pearl and Lime accent stitching that ties back to the Gecko exterior
  • A Switchback cupholder plaque, plus a swing-gate plaque with blueprint-style Wrangler drawings, specs, map elements, and Detroit and Toledo callouts
  • A Willys satin chrome shifter medallion and HVAC vent graphics showing the seven-slot grille and a Willys silhouette

How our read of the clue held up

On October 9 we looked at Jeep's redacted teaser and said what we thought it showed. Here is the honest scorecard.

A 2027 model year: right. That part was printed in plain text.

A capability rather than a paint job: half right. The "whole new way to" line turned out to be about personalization, not new hardware. The real hardware news is the first bright-colored production beadlock ring, which is closer to style than to capability.

A place-themed drop: wrong. We read "takes you deep into" as terrain. The theme is gaming and digital culture, with no destination behind it at all. We said we would not guess the name, colors, or price, and we are glad we held to that.

Duck number twelve

The final duck hatched with the vehicle. Jeep describes it wearing neon-colored shades, with a modern color scheme and '41 badging, which lines up with the Switchback's Gecko accents and '41 body-side decal.

All twelve, complete

With the Switchback, the Twelve 4 Twelve series is finished.

We covered each one as it landed. The most recent are the JL-2A, the Smoky Mountain, and the Laredo. The full run lives in our guide to all twelve Twelve 4 Twelve editions.

A finale built on personalization

Jeep ended an 85th anniversary series with a Wrangler whose entire point is that owners make these trucks their own. That has always been true off the showroom floor too. Hood lettering, fender graphics, and a tire cover are how most people do it, and the Switchback's swapped panels give you a two-tone canvas to work with. If yours is one of the twelve, custom hood lettering is still the single most common thing people add to a special edition Wrangler.

What is the Jeep Wrangler Switchback based on?

The Wrangler Rubicon X, in two-door and four-door configurations. It keeps the Rubicon hardware Jeep lists for it, including the Rock-Trac part-time 4x4 system and Tru-Lok electronic locking front and rear differentials, on 17-inch beadlock wheels with 35-inch all-terrain tires.

How much does the Wrangler Switchback cost?

Yes. The Jeep Switchback was a JK Wrangler concept at the 2017 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, Dana 44 axles, a 4-inch lift, 37-inch BFGoodrich KM2 tires, and half doors. The 2027 production Switchback shares the name but not that build.

How many Twelve 4 Twelve editions are there?

Twelve, released from November 2025 through October 2026. Eleven landed on the 12th of the month; the Smoky Mountain was revealed August 20, 2026, at the Great Smoky Mountain Jeep Invasion.
