What is a transfer decal?

A transfer decal is a single-color design cut from solid vinyl, with the excess weeded away so only your shape remains — no printed background or sticker edge. Because it’s pre-applied to transfer tape, every letter and detail stays perfectly spaced as you lay it down. Press it on, peel the tape away, and you’re left with a clean, painted-on look.

Transfer decals vs. printed stickers

Transfer decals are solid, single-color, and background-free — best for lettering, logos, and clean one-color art, for that factory look. Printed stickers are full-color artwork on a visible vinyl square — best for gradients, photos, and detailed multi-color designs. If you want it to look like it came on the vehicle, choose a transfer decal.

Are transfer decals safe for car paint?

Yes — they’re paint-safe. Our ORACAL® 651 vinyl applies cleanly and peels off without harming factory paint or clear coat, so you can change your look whenever you want. It’s also UV-stable and waterproof, so it holds up to daily driving, car washes, sun, and trail dust.

How to apply transfer decals

Application is a single step thanks to the transfer tape:

1. Clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry.
2. Position the decal and tape one edge to hold alignment.
3. Squeegee firmly over the transfer tape, from the center out.
4. Peel the backing away slowly at a sharp angle, leaving the vinyl on the surface.
5. Remove the transfer tape slowly — your design stays put.
