Jeep Window Decals: Perforated Graphics, Windshield Banners, and Hardtop Sets Compared

Red Jeep Wrangler with a perforated Arizona flag rear window graphic in the desert

Jeep window decals come in three main types: perforated see-thru graphics that cover a full side or rear window while still letting you see out, cut vinyl windshield banners that run across the top of the glass, and smaller printed decals or sticker sets for hardtop windows. Which one you should buy comes down to three questions: where on the Jeep it goes, whether you need to see through it, and what fits your model and door count. This guide compares all three types, covers sizing for JK and JL Wranglers, and flags the visibility rules to look up in your own state before you order.

What are the main types of Jeep window decals?

Most window graphics for a Wrangler, Gladiator, or Bronco fall into one of three buckets, and they behave very differently on the glass.

Perforated see-thru graphics are printed on vinyl with a grid of tiny holes. From the outside, you see a full-color image covering the whole window. From the inside, your eye focuses past the holes, so the window still works like a window. They are the go-to for rear side windows on hardtops.

Windshield banners are cut vinyl lettering with no background, applied as a strip across the top of the windshield or rear glass. They come in solid colors and read as text or a logo, not a picture.

Printed decal sets and stickers are solid (non-perforated) graphics sized for hardtop side windows or glass corners. Because you cannot see through them, they belong on windows you do not rely on for visibility, or on the body-side glass panels of a hardtop.

Type Best spot See-through? Typical price
Perforated see-thru graphics Rear side windows (hardtop) Yes, from inside $69.99 to $89.99 per set
Windshield banner (cut vinyl) Top strip of windshield Open lettering, glass stays clear $24.99
Printed hardtop decal sets Hardtop side windows No around $59.99 per set

Can you see through perforated window decals?

Yes, from the inside during the day. Perforated vinyl is printed on a material that is roughly half image and half open holes. Outside light bounces off the printed face, so people see the graphic. From the driver's seat, you look through the open area, and the image mostly disappears. Two honest caveats: at night the effect weakens, because the light balance flips, and rain droplets on the surface can add distortion. That is why we recommend perforated graphics for the rear side windows rather than the glass you depend on most, and why a full walkthrough is worth reading before your first install. Where can a windshield banner go?

Windshield and window obstruction rules vary by state, so treat what follows as background rather than legal advice. The common thread is that nothing should sit in the driver's critical view. Many states limit windshield stickers to the strip along the top of the glass, often described as the area above the AS-1 line marked near the edge of the windshield, but the allowed depth of that strip and the exceptions vary. A banner-style decal that stays in the top strip is the usual approach. Before you order, look up your own state's statute on windshield and window obstructions, or ask your local law enforcement or inspection station, and buy to that rule rather than to a general guideline.

Windshield banners are also the most budget-friendly way into window graphics. Because they are cut vinyl lettering with no printed background, they cost less than a printed set and come in dozens of colors to match your paint or your other decals.

How do you get the right fit for your Wrangler?

Window glass changed shape across Wrangler generations, so fitment is the first thing to check on any listing. Here is the quick version:

  • JK (2007 to 2018) vs JL (2018 and newer): the hardtop side windows are different sizes, so a decal cut for one will not sit right on the other. We sell our perforated sets by generation for exactly this reason.
  • 2 door vs 4 door: a 2 door Wrangler has longer rear side windows than a 4 door, so we cut the same design differently and price it differently. On our perforated sets, the 2-door versions (JK and JL) are $89.99, and the 4-door versions (JKU and JLU) are $69.99.
  • Hardtop only: perforated and printed side window sets are made for hardtop glass. Soft-top windows flex and fold, and vinyl doesn't survive that.

When should you order seasonal window graphics?

Order 4 to 6 weeks before the holiday you are decorating for. Halloween is the biggest season for window graphics by far, and perforated designs (pumpkin patches, zombies, scarecrows) do double duty: they look like a full scene from the street but keep the glass usable for the school run. Ordering in late August or early September means your Jeep is dressed for the whole season, not just the last week of October, and you skip the pre-holiday shipping crunch. The same logic applies to Christmas designs in November. Decals ship within 7 business days, and orders over $59.99 ship free.

Frequently asked questions

Do window decals damage Jeep glass?

No. Vinyl decals bond to glass with a pressure-sensitive adhesive that releases cleanly. On glass, unlike paint, there is no clear coat to worry about, so removal usually requires only gentle heat, a plastic scraper, and an adhesive remover for any residue.

Can I put a perforated decal on my windshield or front door windows?

No. Perforated graphics are for rear side windows and rear glass. The windshield and the front door windows are the glass you drive by, and covering them with printed film reduces visibility. Many states restrict them, and limits vary, so check your state's window obstruction law. Keep the front glass to a top-strip banner at most.

Will window decals work on a soft top?

No. Soft top windows are flexible plastic that folds and creases, which breaks the vinyl bond. Window decal sets are designed for hardtop glass. If you run a soft top, consider hood, fender, or body decals instead.

How long do Jeep window decals last?

It depends on which product you buy. Our printed perforated graphics are ORAJET 3551RA with a laminate, rated 3 to 6 years outdoors depending on climate and sun exposure. Our cut vinyl windshield banners are ORACAL 651, a calendared film whose rated life depends on the color: about 6 years for standard colors, 4 years for metallics, and 3 years for brilliant blue. Sun exposure is the main aging factor either way, so parking under cover extends the life of any graphic.

Are see-thru window graphics legal?

It depends on your state, and there is no single national rule. Some states allow graphics on the rear side windows and the rear window when the vehicle has working side mirrors on both sides, while others are stricter about rear visibility. Check your state's window obstruction law before installing, especially before covering the rear window.
