How Many Jeep Badge of Honor Trails Are There? (105 in 2026)

Jeep Badge of Honor app map of the United States covered in yellow, blue and green check-marked trail pins from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic, under a headline reading 105 Badge of Honor Trails

As of August 2026, the Jeep Badge of Honor app lists 105 trails in the United States, counted from the app's own map with the "Trails only" filter applied. That is up from 68 trails in October 2023, so the program has grown by more than half in under three years.

If you have seen a different number, that is not because someone got it wrong. It is because the roster moves, and most articles about the program were written once and never re-counted.

Why every article gives a different number

Jeep does not publish a running total on a webpage, so the only reliable count is the one in the app on the day you look. Three things make published numbers drift:

  • The program keeps expanding. Jeep added trails in batches, including the expansion to 68 in October 2023. New ones have been added since.
  • Trails also leave. Access closures, land-management changes, and park decisions can retire a trail from the list.
  • Articles are rarely updated. A guide written in 2024 with an accurate number for 2024 simply becomes stale, which is a different thing from being wrong.

That is why the count above is stamped with a date rather than stated as a permanent fact. Check the app's map before you plan a trip around a number you read anywhere, including here.

Not every trail earns a physical badge

This is the part most write-ups skip entirely, and it changes how you plan.

Some Badge of Honor trails award a physical hard badge, the small metal dog tag you mount on the rig. Others award a digital badge only, which lives on your app profile but never arrives in the mail. The map tells you which is which before you drive anywhere, using pin color:

  • Yellow pin. A trail that earns a physical hard badge.
  • Green pin with a check mark. One of those trails you have already completed.
  • Blue pin. A digital-only badge. Still counts on your profile, but there is no dog tag to mount.

If you are collecting hard badges specifically, that single detail is what separates a worthwhile trip from a long drive for a profile entry. Zoom the map to a region you are considering and look at the colors before you commit a weekend to it.

Where the trails are

Badge of Honor is often assumed to be a Western program, and the map does lean that way: Colorado, Utah, California, Arizona, and the Mountain West carry a heavy concentration of pins, which is what you would expect given where the country's rock crawling and high alpine passes are.

But the coverage is genuinely national. The Midwest, the Southeast, the Mid-Atlantic, and New England all appear on the map, and Pennsylvania alone carries multiple badge trails at Rausch Creek Off-Road Park and Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area. Texas, Michigan, Florida, and the Carolinas are represented too. For most owners in the eastern half of the country, there is a badge trail within a reasonable drive.

We break down individual trails, including the ones with real fees, seasonal gates, and tire and locker requirements, in our full Jeep Badge of Honor guide.

How many can you realistically collect?

All 105 is a genuine multi-year project, not a season. The trails are spread across the country, several are gated by snowpack for most of the year, and a handful require a seriously built rig rather than a stock one. The Rubicon Trail is reported to be the only trail in the program rated a 10 out of 10 on the Badge of Honor difficulty scale, and Colorado's Holy Cross treats a winch as close to mandatory.

Most owners work regionally instead, clearing what is within a day's drive and picking up others on trips. It is worth deciding early how you want the collection to grow, because where you mount the hard badges is close to a permanent decision once the adhesive is down.

Frequently asked questions

How many Jeep Badge of Honor trails are there?

As of August 2026, the app's map shows 105 trails with the "Trails only" filter applied. The program listed 68 trails after its October 2023 expansion, so it has grown by more than half since then. Trails are occasionally added and retired, so the app is the only current source.

Why do other articles say there are 68 Badge of Honor trails?

Because 68 was accurate after Jeep's October 2023 expansion. Those articles were not wrong when they were written, they simply were not re-counted as the program grew. Jeep does not publish a running total on a webpage, so any number in an article reflects the day it was written.

Do all Badge of Honor trails give you a physical hard badge?

No. Yellow pins on the app map are trails that earn a physical hard badge, and a green check mark is one of those you have already completed. Blue pins are digital-only badges that appear on your profile without a dog tag being mailed to you.

Are Jeep Badge of Honor badges free?

Yes. The app, the account, and every check-in are free, and there is no fee to earn a badge. Individual trails may have their own access costs, such as day-use fees at some off-road parks, but those are charged by the land manager and are not part of the program.

Which states have Jeep Badge of Honor trails?

Coverage is national, with a heavy concentration in Colorado, Utah, California, Arizona, and the Mountain West where most of the country's rock crawling and alpine passes are. The Midwest, Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and New England are all represented as well, and Pennsylvania carries several badge trails between Rausch Creek Off-Road Park and Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area.

What is the hardest Badge of Honor trail?

The Rubicon Trail in California is reported to be the only trail in the program rated a 10 out of 10 on the Badge of Honor difficulty scale. Colorado's Holy Cross is also widely treated as requiring a significantly modified rig and a winch, despite being only about four miles long.

Do you need to own a Jeep to collect Badge of Honor badges?

The app does not verify your vehicle, so the account is technically open to anyone. The program is built for Jeep owners and the community around the brand, but whatever you drive, the badges you earn stay on your profile.
